Last night, at 3 AM, they started an EEG test on Oliver. It will last 24-48 hours. We are hoping he will have a seizure while he is being monitored so they can make a better diagnosis. It seems weird to want him to have a mild seizure but, it would be immensly helpful. If he has a seizure and they get the information they need, they will probably end the EEG more quickly. As you can imagine Oliver isn't loving having 50 little monitors glued onto his head :)
An update about the CT scan at NH hospital. We were told there that Oliver's brain was bleeding in 3 spots based on the scan. The head pediatric neurologist here said it wasn't bleeding but, it is calcium deposits. From what he has seen his premlinimary diagonosis is that Oliver probably has tuberous sclerosis, which is a rare genetic disorder. At this point we aren't sure but, it is looking like that may be the underlying cause of the seizures. Looking forward we don't know yet how things will be with him day to day. As you can imagine there is a range of severity for people suffering fromTS. We don't want to put the cart before the horse and get too worried until we know more.
Tomorrow they plan to give Oliver a MRI and a MRA. These tests should make a big difference as far as making a definent TS diagnosis. We are anxious for the MRI/MRA so we can know more. It is difficult to wait for answers!
Oliver is in great spirits most of the time. He is a real charmer with the nurses and doctors. We are so thankful to be here at UNC!Andrew and I are hanging in there. I am so glad he is my husband! He has proved to be a tremendous in everyway.
Most importantly, we know that God is good and He is ultimately in control. We know Oliver is his child tooand He loves him more than we ever could. We know that the Lord is with us. We are comforted knowing the One who created the universe is also the Great Physician.
We feel your prayers- I promise we can sense them. THANK YOU! We'll never be able to express the comfort we have received from your time, with the Lord, on our behalf. We love you all. We'll update once we know more (probably tomorrow).
