This is a great article (click here) on the neurosurgeon we would work with, at Mass General, if Oliver is deemed a surgical candidate. Her name is Ann-Christine ("Tina") Duhaime. Three things I already like about her:
1-She has a double name! Don't you just love those?
2-Dr.Theile thinks she is awesome and told me a few stories about how impressed she has been in the Operating Room with "Tina".
3-This article and the way it shows her warmth and gentleness (oh, and surgical mastery). Overall, I am feeling really good about choosing Boston.
- We are still waiting on a date for the pre-surgical evaluation. It is hard to wait!-
- I spoke with the Social Security Administration yesterday afternoon. I had this big long explanation typed up for y'all but on the 6th bullet and the 5th abbreviation I thought it was a bit much. I thought "these sweet people don't want to read all this mess." Heck, I didn't even want to type it! So I'll just let you know how things unfold. Basically we are waiting to get a letter in the mail in 10 days or so. Then another 3-4 more steps and at least a few more months of waiting.
We're so happy to report that as of this weekend Oliver is off of 2 seizures meds, Topamax and Sabril. That brings him down to 3 seizure meds and 2 asthma meds. Going from 9 to 5 meds daily is GREAT! He seems to be his happy self once again which is very encouraging.
His language and communication issues are serious concerns for us right now. It is like he is turning into a non-verbal child before our very eyes. It is emotional and we really don't know what to think about it. Could it be a sign of Autism Spectrum Disorder or could it be medication side effects, fatigue, the endless seizures...who knows!?! So we're waiting...I mean, are y'all as tired of waiting as I am? Every post says, somewhere "waiting." Perhaps there is a lesson I am missing? I suppose I should quit complaining and start looking for the spiritual lessons (or nuggets as I like to call them) that are surely scattered all around this "waiting room!" Might as well get a bit wiser while I wait...right?
