Last night was a doozie!I feel like I have been hit by a freight train. I probably slept 2 hours last night. At this point I am a zombie so if this doesn't make sense, please forgive me...
After our post last night, Oliver's oxygen saturation continued to go down, time and time again. We called in the neurosurgery team and they wanted to do another CT scan. The scan was ordered to make sure Oliver's brain wasn't bleeding or swelling. Suddenly the possibility of a serious complication was on the table. We were very scared. The CT Scan looked normal and we avoided an emergency surgery to correct the problem. Thank God for this good news. It was tense to say the least.
Today we are hoping Oliver will begin to really wake up. He hasn't spoken at all with the exception of a very pitiful “juice.” He is moaning a great deal and you can tell he is just miserable.
Also during the night much of the head wrap came off. I woke to find the edge of the incision and the little electrodes coming out of the brain. It wasn't as gory as I would have thought.
Andrew is sleeping down the hall in a sleep room. I hope he can get some rest so we can switch off. It is nice they have this amenity because it is almost impossible to sleep in this room at night.
My mom and grandmother are on their way with coffee. Hallelujah. They've been a great help.
This time we are in the PICU which is quite different than where we were before. There isn't a Keruig coffee maker (sad!) and there also isn't a private bathroom or shower. However, the rooms are much bigger here and the nurse to patient ratio is much lower. Basically, it looks like we won't be showering too much for the next few days :(
The nursing staff and doctors are great. Oliver is getting lots of attention, particularly after his wild night.
Your prayers bless us! We feel deep gratitude for your love!
