I thought you might like to see some creative encouragements we've received:
MaryAnn and Patsy took my request for caring for the nurses seriously. They developed 21 days of themed candy gifts. For each day there are 24 individual bags with a note. Here are some of their clever ideas. I think the nurses are going to LOVE this.
Take a look at this awesome toy set for Oliver. Tonda Peterson had this outstanding idea to make glue magnets on the back of toys, so Oliver could play with them in the crib. Isn't this brilliant? She is so creative! She also gave me a very functional travel set for the plane, complete with breath mints and lip balm. The real kicker was the matching headband.
My friend Kristin over at Team Charlie Claire sent me this bracelet. It is purple (the color for Epilepsy Awareness) and has that cute little ribbon. Kristin has become a dear friend and one of my biggest cheerleaders. Kristin's daughter (Charlie Claire) just went through a similar surgery in March. Another neat idea was this mixed CD from our friend Tara. We can't wait to listen to her mix :)
We feel like we've been in the middle of a
blessings blizzard
and that makes all the hard stuff so much easier to handle.
Your love, your gifts are a critical part of the hope we feel. We are more courageous and inspired than we could have dreamed because of you. Oh, how I wish we could say more than “thank you” or “we love you.” But that will have to do for now.
I thought I already posted these prayer requests....oops! I'm a bit frazzled these days...sorry y'all!
August 18th
We just got off the phone with Dr. Thiele and she gave us a much-needed pep talk. We were beginning to second guess ourselves as our emotions grow stronger by the day. She reminded us why we are doing this and of all the patients she has worked with that have been seizure free due to the surgery. An unexpected blessing is we are going to be able to see her Monday and Tuesday! God bless that woman!
August 19th
Please pray for Oliver to HAVE seizures. There are two reasons for this request: First it makes us feel like we are doing the right thing by having the surgery. It is a psychological boost, if that makes any sense ( A validation of sorts that we've made the best choice)? Second, it helps the doctors as they plan the surgery, etc. One of my greatest fears is he'll have the first surgery, and then we won't be able to get him to have seizures! This would mean he had brain surgery #1 for NO reason at all. That would stink.
August 20th
Please pray for all the details we'll juggle while in Boston. Andrew's work, property management concerns, bills, etc. Thankfully we have a house sitter and help lined up for Scout Properties. We are blessed to have great folks helping us!
August 21st
Please pray for safe travel from start to finish. We'll be in transit most of the day Sunday- driving to Raleigh and then flying to Boston.
August 22nd
We have a busy day of pre-op appointments this morning. We have been told the meeting with the neurosurgeon is rather emotional, as all the details of the surgery must be discussed. We'll also get to see Dr. Thiele one more time for another great pep talk!
