It looks like Oliver's seizures are about the same as they were before the surgery. This of course is sad news for us. It appears Oliver won't be one of the 50% of kids who are seizure free post-surgery. The good news is there is not a new area of seizure focus. This means the seizures haven't spread to other areas of the brain. All of the seizures they captured looked the exact same, which is also good news. The "data is beautiful," is what Dr. T. said. Therefore, we are getting discharged this afternoon (!) and get to sleep at the Farrell's tonight. Hallelujah! Tomorrow we'll see Dr. Duhaime (the pediatric neurosurgeon) and Dr. Newberry (psychiatrist).
Dr. Thiele wants to wait and see what Dr. Newberry says on Friday about meds and Oliver's behaviors. It will probably be late Friday before we have a cohesive plan (from all 3 doctors) about moving forward.
So far we are very thankful. The seizures came, they were captured and Oliver was fairly cooperative. We got reassurance (and hugs) from Dr. Thiele and her nurse Jan. We feel like the data collected was clear and informs on how to proceed.
Now you can pray specifically for our time with Dr. Newberry (tomorrow at 2pm). That he will be able to give us some concrete steps to help with Oliver's behaviors and sensory needs.
