Oliver Update:
Seizures went on a week-long hiatus, thanks to increasing his Banzel dose, but they are back. Still, we'll take a week! We are still waiting on the report from Boston....
He is doing really well at school. The new teacher is g-r-e-a-t.
Little update on the cosmic throne; it is in my mini-van waiting to be returned. Oliver could get out of that and the four other subsequent chairs we have tried.
Jenise Oliver's really incredible physical therapist (through his preschool) suggested we explore our medical equipment benefits for our insurance. We met with a medical equipment rep and settled on asking BCBS for an adaptive stroller. It will be just right for OLIVER which is going to make a world of difference; that is if we get approved. Come on BCBS, you know you want to say "yes!"
Jenise also recommended we get Oliver high-top shoes. I think they look a bit urban, but they are helping with his stability. Whatever works...
I also had noticed a tricycle at school that was adapted for children with special needs. I asked about getting one for Oliver and Jenise told me about the company etc. The company, Amtryke, has a scholarship program that we have applied for becuase the trkye Oliver needs will be well over $500 bucks. Yes, I said $500. And while I am shocking you I'll tell you the adaptive stroller system we have asked for cost somewhere (I don't know for sure because of the different modifiers we asked for) between 7-10 K, yes 7-10 THOUSAND dollars!
"Adaptive" is sort of like "wedding" anything with that word in the title will cost a small fortune.
Thank God for scholarships and insurance.
I love the picture above of Oliver, he looks like he is doing a Cowboy Strut. Maegan, who is lived with us that summer that changed everything, turned 22 recently. She will graduate in May (sad) and is finishing her last semester by student teaching at Laney High School. We are so proud of her and loved celebrating with her at her cowgirl themed birthday party.
She was surprised!
Oliver had a blast and used the opportunity to flirt with all the college ladies.
Caroline and June had their two-year old birthday party Saturday morning at the
park. They are so adorable and so sweet. I think sometimes Oliver is a little intense for their mild natures :) They have such sweet spirits and love to cuddle up with a book.
We attempted to get a picture of Oliver with the birthday girls...you can see how that went.
Here is Ollie with
Tim and Trista. Our buds who came to Boston with us to help with the
surgery etc. Well...they have exciting news, they are expecting a little
GIRL in July! Woot-woot! We already love her.
Here are some shots from our babysitting time last weekend with the
Carpenter Girls. Y'all know I love girl time (squeal). This time we not only
played “dress up” but we also got into my makeup. It was a blast.
Charlotte decided to use black eye shadow ALL over my face. It was
interesting...
Hadley was just as happy as she could be amidst the chaos. Even when we got the "fashion show" going with music and high heels she was smiling. I think she is going to be a go-with-the-flow kind of girl, but only time will tell!
Couldn't you just eat her up in those bunny ears? When Andrew got home he had so much fun
gibbering with Hadley. He is kind of a baby-whisperer (bet you didn't know that!)
