New Strategy

This morning we met with the neurologist to discuss Oliver's situation. We now have a new strategy to combat the seizures. We are changing around some medications hoping to find the right combination. I won't bore you with the details- it is rather complicated. We are hoping the new plan will decrease Oliver's sleepiness, particularly him falling asleep while eating lunch. The doctor reminded us that it is helpful to view this as a long, methodical process of elimination. In general, TSC related seizures are quite difficult to control so we continue to pray for patience and perseverance.

The other news from today was something we pretty much already knew....Since Oliver has tried this many drugs and they haven't worked there is only a 5-10% chance that another drug will make him seizure free. So, at some point soon, if we don't find one (or 2) that work then we'll need to look at other options. We aren't there yet but, with each drug that doesn't fully work, we are closer to more involved options like the Ketogenic Diet, etc. We know that Oliver isn't a statistic and he could be part of the 5-10% that do find a medicine that works.

Last night some friends from our church came over to pray with us and it was an unforgettable night. It was an emotional time for all of us. We were humbled by the love and attention our friends gave us despite their busy lives. It was exactly the encouragement we needed to carry on in this uncertain time. I know the Lord did great things in that time and I'm so glad we got to experience this special part of life within the body of Christ.

Romans 5:3-5
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
